Y'all ready for this?!! - R2W 2008 Launch Dinner

A reflection on the evening from Victor, R2W 2008 Residential Assistant:
"I was somewhat uncertain about how things were going to turn out. Me and Danny spent 20 minutes debating about what problem posing actually was. Right at 6pm, we had an epiphany about what we were going to say about problem posing. We had that moment where we were like, 'Yes! We know it!' We had some technical difficulties, but it flowed well. It felt right.

"We went around and did the normal circle and everybody was able to put their input in. We did things the R2W way - everybody giving input. I felt like it was a real comfortable environment/space for everyone. We got some love for R2W. Maybe we can get some more people to start looking at it. It was a good kickoff, like Michael said, 'To talk ourselves into the next 2 weeks.' It was like the final point before you get on the ride at Six Flags where you see the exit sign and could not get on, but you're like, 'No, I'm gonna do this - I'm ready for this.' And the food was good. Also, I want to say thanks to everybody for singing happy birthday and for the cake - I was caught off guard for the second year in a row. Thank you."

Some quotes from the R2W 2008 Launch Dinner tonight:
"When I came to R2W, I found a place where I could be Asian American, spiritual, and be into social justice - I could be all the part of myself." ~ Chloe, R2W 2005, CLI 2007-present, R2W 2008 Residential Assistant

"R2W combines compassion and justice. R2W doesn't just see poor people and give them food, but it goes the extra step and asks, 'Why are they poor?' That's compassion." ~ Jeffrey Acido, PSR student and R2W Resource Person

"The people who needed to be here came and they recognized and that's really important for us - it means a lot." ~ Michael James, Director of R2W Youth Programs.
